The latest addition to Five Oars Coffee Roasters, a purveyor of specialty coffee and exceptional food in the East Coast, The client’s goal was to create an inviting hospitality environment, one that could take time out, relax, and refresh.

We took inspiration from Tropical Modernism, a vernacular design language that is influenced by the climate of tropical countries in South East Asia.

We understood the relationship between the natural world and the built environment, and the concept of each element ‘flowing’ into one another. Abundant in greenery, an expansive suspended lighting installation with integrated planter forms a striking wheat canopy above the sculptural coffee bar. When open, full-height collapsible gate creates a true sense of bringing the outdoors in, allowing for an open-air experience in this built-up urban location. A palette of organic materials including timber, bricks, leather, and metal further define the space, while neutral tones create a cooling effect in the space.
